The Supreme Court (SC) will conduct the first ever virtual oath-taking ceremony for bar examination passers on June 25.

The SC said they approved a resolution allowing the conduct of the oath-taking ceremony through online video conference with a link to a government television network for broadcast.

“The court noted that the current health crisis and COVID-19 pandemic made it not possible to hold the oath-taking ceremony the traditional way, as it had to take into consideration the existing government policies on public health, particularly on mass gatherings,” the SC said.

More than 2,000 new lawyers will be taking their oaths online.

The SC clarified that the online oath-taking will be “pro hac vice,” which means the resolution applies only to the 2019 bar passers.

The SC said the Office of the Bar Confidant will announce the details, guidelines and instructions for the online oath-taking.
