Privacy
We run a newspaper, not a data business. This page explains, plainly, what we collect when you read Advocates Philippines, why, and the control you have over it. We follow the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).
The short version
What we collect
If you accept cookies: we use Google Analytics to understand how the paper is read. It records things like the pages you view, how you arrived (for example, a link from Facebook or a Google search), your approximate location (city or region, from your IP address, which is not stored in full), and your device and browser type. It does not tell us your name, and we don't try to identify you.
Whether or not you accept: like every website, our servers keep basic technical logs (such as requests and error records) needed to keep the site running and secure. These are not used to profile you.
Your choice itself is stored only on your own device (in your browser) so we remember not to ask again.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website can store in your browser. We use them only for analytics, and only after you tap Accept. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Who else is involved
The only third party that receives reader data is Google, which provides Google Analytics. Its use of that data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We have enabled IP anonymization. We do not share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it.
Why we collect it
One reason: to make a better paper. Knowing which stories are read helps our editors decide what to cover and how to present it. That's the whole of it.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for a limited period (we use the shortest practical setting) and then deleted. Technical server logs are kept only as long as needed to operate and secure the site.
Your rights
Under the Data Privacy Act, you have the right to be informed, to access your data, to correct it, to object to its processing, to have it erased or blocked, and to lodge a complaint. Because our analytics data is anonymous and not tied to your name, we usually cannot single out one reader's records — but you can always:
- Decline cookies, so nothing is collected about your reading.
- Withdraw consent anytime using the button below.
