Typhoon Ambo weakened today and is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday morning.

The Typhoon made landfall just after noon on Thursday over San Policarpio, Eastern Samar.

Phivolcs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) Director Renato Solidum said the typhoon is now heading towards northwest Catanauan, Quezon Province and is expected to hit the Metro Manila-Rizal area at 8:00 p.m. today.

Solidum added that Ambo will hit Ilocos Sur by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow before leaving PAR.

Typhoon Signal number 2 remains in effect over Metro Manila.

Solidum told local government units (LGUs) to always be prepared and ensure the safety of their constituents amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also advised LGUs to ensure that physical distancing and minimum health protocols are strictly observed in evacuation centers to avoid further spread of the coronavirus.
